# Getting started

Valist enables you to automatically generate staging environments for your application with minimal configuration. All you need is to connect your Git repo to an app in Valist on your account. After that, a new staging environment will be created automatically next time a pull request is created in GitHub and a new commit is pushed.

To understand how your application is run, you need to provide a configuration file in your repo.

## Run Valist locally with the CLI

Generate a configuration file and test your build locally using the Valist CLI. [Read more](https://valist.gitbook.io/valist/documentation/valist-cli)

## Learn all about the configuration file

Read the documentation about the configuration file you need alongside your code to automatically build your application for the staging environment. [Read more](https://valist.gitbook.io/valist/documentation/configuration-file)

## Technology specific guides

If you wonder how to best configure your application with a popular technology stack, guides are available. If you need additional help, you can also contact our support at <support@valist.dev>.
